Terms of Service
Last updated: July 12, 2026
Because Fixative holds no keys and runs no servers, only you can recover your vault. If you lose your passphrase and your recovery shares, your data is unrecoverable. This is a deliberate security property, not a defect.
1. Acceptance
By downloading or using Fixative, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
2. What Fixative is
Fixative is an on-device encrypted vault for photos and videos on iOS and macOS. It stores and encrypts your media locally. It does not provide cloud storage, backup, or any server-side service.
3. Your responsibility for keys and recovery
You are solely responsible for remembering your passphrase and for safely storing your Shamir recovery shares. We do not hold, escrow, or have any ability to recover your keys.
We cannot reset your passphrase, unlock your vault, or restore your data. Loss of your passphrase together with your recovery shares results in permanent, irreversible loss of access to your encrypted content.
4. Backups
Fixative encrypts data on your device but is not a backup service. You are responsible for maintaining your own device backups. Deleting the app or resetting your device may permanently remove your vault.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to use Fixative only for lawful purposes and only to store content you have the right to store. You are responsible for all content kept in your vault.
6. Purchases
Fixative Pro is a one-time purchase processed by Apple through the App Store, subject to Apple's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple according to their policies.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
Fixative is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. While we design for strong security, no software is guaranteed to be free of vulnerabilities. You use the app at your own risk.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss of data, loss of access, or any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of Fixative, including loss resulting from a forgotten passphrase or lost recovery shares.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
